Free Ice Cream
Summary
I must say, Free Ice Cream is a hopeful nonfiction book which assures us that there is a positive future for all of us, irrespective of our economic standards. I will recommend this book to school students, budding entrepreneurs, and students at the business school. Ideas, after all, should be capable enough to change the world into something good.
Free Ice Cream is one of the best nonfiction books I have read in recent years. Personally, I marvelled at the creativity with which the author presented something as significant as the concept of making everything free of cost.
The blurb of the book mentions an important fact about job prospects in the near future:-
“Experts estimate 20 – 30 million jobs will be lost by 2030 due to AI. If we do not do anything different, the majority of the global population is likely to be jobless in the foreseeable future. Free Ice Cream proposes that we accelerate automation, and use that change to slingshot us over this Job loss predicament. Free Ice Cream shows us how we will not need to work for survival anymore.” This excerpt, in particular, comprises the heart of the book.
Free Ice Cream does not merely provide you a step-by-step process to make such a hypothetical event occur in reality, but also gives enough statistical evidence to suggest why it is mandatory to make commodities free for all. The allocation of services, products, and money too has always been unfairly done; since the rich always get the lion’s share, while the rest is left out for those who can take it. This throat-cutting competition of earning more to get more has blinded us from the very essence of human life. The motto of “Live and let live” is now dormant underneath foxed pages of old books which propose verbal wisdom but provide no practical solutions to it. Free Ice Cream, however, is a very novel approach to personal, and therefore global, finance as well as it has the capability to alter one’s understanding of the world. As far as the contents are concerned, Free Ice Cream is no doubt interesting and brims with surprises.

The narrative the author uses throughout the book is full of suspense. No, not the thriller-kind of suspense, but more of astonishment. Astonishment, because the set of ideas which are arranged in a very empirical and methodical way makes Free Ice Cream a fantastic nonfiction book. It is this very idea of surprising the readers that most nonfiction books fail to do. Also, besides its wealth of knowledge and motivational ideas, Free Ice Cream is written in a very simple language which is completely devoid of any business jargon. No wonder why I enjoyed reading it more! However, one important feature Free Ice Cream which I admired a lot was the cast of characters utilised to make this project possible.
What makes them so interesting is that these characters are always in a brainstorming session with one another, following a trial-and-error method of what step would work and what would not. What is more intriguing is that we the readers are allowed into this discussion as silent participants. That way, we get more ideas and insights into the methods of making ice cream, and therefore other commodities, free for all.
