Indeed, a teacher, a Guru is the ultimate guiding force, a beacon of light in any person’s life. A Guru is the one who plays the most pivotal role of all, teaching valued morals to their followers, imparting not only the much-needed knowledge but also many other things which are the essentials to living a contented life.
Life is not only about achieving success and moving forward. It is also about carrying the right sense and aura of disposition whilst on the path. Success, for instance, is something one might achieve anyhow at some point in time in life. However, patience, and perseverance whilst on the path to it is what is the real deal, that is what is your real takeaway from the whole journey. Similarly, the manner in which one behaves, and their disposition speak volumes about the kind of morals they harbour and the kind of person they are fashioning themselves to be. Thus, the presence of a Guru, a guiding force of light is extremely crucial as it is this Guru who helps his protegee from straying away towards wrong paths and makes him learn and excel in the art of the correct life living. Teaching his disciple to do what is right, fair, just, and proper is one of Guru’s primary aims.
The practice of a teacher is such that he constantly aims to hone and mentor his disciple in a way that the disciple not only excels but surpasses his own Guru at one point in time. That is the essence of great Guru-imparting wisdom of the ages and also all possible knowledge to sharpen and condition the disciple’s mind in such a fashion that be it a success or self disposition, be it spiritual or worldly, he does not falter, he is supreme at all possible walks of life.
In India, a festival that celebrates this Guru-Shishya relationship is Guru Purnima.
