Summary

Plotwise, the book had no end; it was just about the characters, so it went in circles. I also couldn’t get used to the writing style fast enough. This was definitely not my kind of book.

2.6

I finished reading It’s Also About Mynah by Rucha Chitrodia this weekend and….my thoughts are as scattered as this book was.

Let’s get into the review:

The title of the book stands true because the story is about many other, confusing, not-related people; but yeah, it’s also about Mynah. At least a little bit.

Mynah gets a job in Mumbai which her father reluctantly approves about. The place where she finds residence is owned by a kind, middle-aged woman called Aruna; with whom Mynah forms a deep bond. But that’s it. Mynah’s story ends here. From that point on, the tale becomes about Aruna, her husband, her husband’s girlfriend, her maid, her maid’s husband, Aruna’s father, Mynah’s boyfriend, his family and on and on it kept branching out.

The Lockdown Chronicles: Looking back at 2020

To put it precisely, the book digressed. I honestly didn’t see the point. Maybe the author was trying to put forward varied character personalities, but then the book was just too short for that. It’s less than 200 pages and it covers so many characters!!! Or maybe the author was trying to depict life in Mumbai through these characters, but then again, being a Mumbaikar, this was definitely NOT about Mumbai.

Plotwise, the book had no end; it was just about the characters, so it went in circles. I also couldn’t get used to the writing style fast enough. This was definitely not my kind of book.
