Omana
I have recently realised while reading the collection of stories ‘Omana’, that short stories contain a world within them. A place where we get to meet people from different walks of life. And we get to experience many shaded emotions, even though, these aren’t different from ours, yet they speak of life contained in just a few pages.
Omana by Vanaja Pillai was one such book that introduced me to some of the amazing women. Though fictitious, these women had something to share with us. Stories from their perspective.
One of the story that stayed with me still is Omana. It was a heartbreaking story of last breath taken by a dying old woman. In that last breath I realised that all she wanted was the warmth of her loved ones. The reassurance of not being left alone even on her deathbed. From then on I read some amazing stories that left me in emotional turmoil, though not all were painful. Some made me cry and some took me on a journey of nostalgia to my childhood and some made me smile.
SOME BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SHORT STORIES
Written in the simplest vernacular, the collection of short stories Omana stole my heart with their shortest stories. In the end, all I could say is that it is a journey you should definitely take.
