KGF Chapter 2

With a budget of around 150 crores, this movie has amassed a gross of more than 1230 crores worldwide, thanks to a great storyline, a pre-set lead start with an awesome prequel, The story continues with Rocky who after establishing himself as the prime kingpin of the Kolar gold fields, must retain his supremacy over adversaries and government officials, while also coming to terms with his past.

RRR

This one had a humongous budget of around 425 crores. Yet, with stellar permutations and an amazing cast, this one managed to clock more than 1140 crores globally. The dashing duo of Ram Charan and Jr. NTR is the reason behind the supreme success. The story revolves around a fearless revolutionary and an officer in the British force who once had shared a deep bond and later decide to join forces and chart out an inspirational path of freedom against the despotic rulers.

Kantara

Perhaps the biggest sensation of the year from Kannada cinema, this movie which was made under a budget of 16 crores managed to amass more than 420 crores worldwide, the OTT version having received the same adulation and love as the theatrical release. What happens when a fiery young man clashes with an unflinching forest officer in a village in the South where spirituality, fate and folklore rule the lands? Kantara! (BTW, the track “Varaha Roopam” is a haunting melody which I shall perhaps never be able to get outta my head! Awesome).

Ponniyin Selvan 1

Made with a humongous budget of 210 crores this one still made more than 500 crores worldwide albeit more was expected from this one. Mani Ratnam’s dream project, this epic historical action drama is the first in a 2-part series, dramatizing the early life of Chola Prince Arulmozhi Varman who would become the renowned emperor Rajaraja I. The highest-grossing Tamil film of 2022, this one was shot in various parts of India with also a few sequences being shot in Thailand.

Vikram

This Kamal Hassan starrer which had a budget of around 115 crores collected more than 430 crores worldwide, whilst also breaking Bahubali’s record in Tamil Nadu and becoming the highest-grossing movie in that state. The story revolves around a special agent who investigates a murder committed by a masked group of serial killers. However, a tangled maze of clues soon leads him to the drug kingpin of Chennai. BTW this one is a spiritual successor of sorts, of a 1986 movie of the same name.
