Indeed, a crime is one such activity that can compel one to think radically, understanding the small repercussions that arise out of its nuances. I recently finished Murdrum 2: Double Trouble by Dr Sohil Makwana, the sequel to the first in the series of Murdrum: The Probe begins. For those who are unacquainted with the previous, don’t worry because there is a little recap in the first part which will help you get updated with the transpiring of this psychological crime thriller.
So, this one starts with CBI officer Komal Rathod being assigned to find out the reason why a pregnant woman has been brutally killed. 26 murders which have taken place in a short span of time are ticking away her time and patience as she gets into the rigmarole towards finding out why and who is behind these. To make matters worse her competitor Jadhav has been killed too. Although she detested him, she is unhappy with the sequence of events that are unfolding themselves upon her, throwing her down the labyrinth of new challenges every day. Will she be able to find out who the murderer is and his/her purpose behind the brutal acts? Or will she fall prey to the vicious weblike quagmire the murderer has spun for her? Read the book to find out more.
I especially want to commence by mentioning how Dr Sohil’s writing has always intrigued me because of its uncanny ability to give one a sort of a lens to picture the scenario in your mind’s eye. His descriptions are so vivid, the details being gruesome yet appealing in a compelling sort of way, keeping you hooked right throughout the narrative. Agree the details of the murders put are gruesome and can be a bit unpleasant in nature for some to read but hey guys when was crime ever fun to read and peruse? Crime is known for its ability to stay put startling and clear in our memories owing to its gruesome, brutal nature. The references especially the medical jargon used are effective in keeping one’s interest piqued at all points throughout the read. I almost felt to be a part of the chase alongside Komal as I could begin to see the whole drama almost unfold successfully in my mind’s eye, thanks to Dr Sohil’s illustrative descriptions. Also adopting the use of technology to catch the killer used in this plot is fresh and engaging, allowing a newer perspective to the story. Felt as though I was a part of the hard-core FBI team, doing rounds to crack a high-profile lunatic’s case. Not only has the plot been well devised, but the characters have also been sketched in a manner wherein one finds it fascinating to understand as well as peruse them throughout. I must mention that in spite of this being a crime read, the author has tried to keep it light at times, giving the readers a bit of respite from the heavy-duty plot and storyline.
It thus came as no surprise to me that this book will soon be made into a movie. Surely, with the kind of the racy thrilling narrative, the gripping storyline and most importantly the cleverly conceived characters, Murdrum will surely be an audio-visual treat to watch out for.
