Well, I started writing when I started my blog it gave me the discipline to write every day and that helped me motivate myself. I started Turning my writings into books and moved on to writing fictional stories catering to the web series and OTT market in India. I have sold the rights of my Book, Yes sir I killed my Dad to a production house it is getting made into a web series to be released next year.

What do you do besides writing?

A Nothing really, I enjoy travelling and scuba diving, I am a die hard foodie and love fooling around on social media.

What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

I make it a point to write one book a month that’s my target and try to finish five A4 sheets a day that’s around 4000 words a day. I generally write through the day and sometimes even in the wee hours of the night. But one book a day is my target.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

Information is easy. it’s all on the net and a google search away. I first start with the idea and think of a title, from the title and the byline comes the story. If you give me any title random title I will be able to make a book out of it. I try to observe real-life and pick book ideas from my life experiences that are the best as it’s raw and fresh.

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

I wrote my first book in 2018, it was called Survival, the book was a super flop and sold only 100 copies I paid more than 3 lakh rupees in getting it self published and spent the same amount on its publicity it was a disaster. But I learnt the publishing game from that mistake. Now I have just finished my 30th book called “Assassinating Modi”.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

Editing is very important. A badly edited book can find no reader and I am yet to perfect the editing of my books. I pay people for it but the results have been disappointing so far. For independent writers like me who are really on independent platforms, the money and royalty are very less, unless you sell the rights of your book is very less money for an independent author like myself.

How many books have you written? Which is your favourite?

I have written thirty books so far. My favourite is the book “I also slept with Rashmi Verma” it’s an erotica and a story from my MBA days.

What do you think makes a good story?

Anything can be a story, it’s how you create the scene and the world that’s the key.

Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?

Be observant and be dedicated to writing five pages a day consistently, over time you will rock for sure.

Hope you liked the Interview with Anuj Tikku – author of Sunaina ki Jadooi Sandal
