A Royal’s Destiny by Anvika Perodi is an engaging and thrilling fantasy story that stands testimony to the author’s prowess as a young creative writer. I am amazed by the kind of innovation she has implemented in her fictional narrative with such finesse.

A Royal’s Destiny begins with Princess Lilith eyeing the royal throne for which her twin sister, Princess Lydia, is a stiff contender too. However, when Lydia gets kidnapped, Lilith’s competitive facade disintegrates as she is overcome by the sense of responsibility towards her sister. She gathers a team constituting her close friends in an epic adventure to rescue her sister from the people of the Krimson Kingdom. Indeed, the crossover of suspense and magic was unanticipated and I am still at a loss of words for this stupendous novel.

ALSO BY ANVIKA PERODI: Book Review of A Detective’s Diary by Anvika Perodi

The first reason why I loved reading A Royal’s Destiny was the premise itself. It is interesting to see how a pair of same-sex siblings turns from competitors for a throne to very promising and hopeful sisters. The story revolves around these two protagonists in particular, removing any possibility for a typical chivalric male character to arrive as a saviour in the course of the novel. The female protagonists are depicted as very steadfast, strong, and courageous. Interestingly, they are not depicted as the “ideal” characters by including certain flaws in their respective personalities, yet they eventually overcome these shortcomings. This character development in A Royal’s Destiny is undoubtedly wonderful and inspiring. It not merely proves the author’s ability to mould round characters, but also gives us a realistic glimpse into an individual’s mind. Most importantly, to explain such a complex idea like the coming of change in an individual’s personality is not an easy task. Yet, the author makes it look very simple and concise with the help of a very lucid and humble language. The story ticks off all the boxes that can be considered as the criteria for a good novel. The sheer depth of the plot in A Royal’s Destiny is so beautifully curated into a simple storyline is admirable, to say the least.

However, what I loved most A Royal’s Destiny is the thematic aspects which constitute the entire plot. I am impressed by how the author has displayed a very mature style of narration with the use of a very simple vocabulary. I am already acquainted with the author’s style of writing, since I previously read her debut novel A Detective’s Diary. Yet, the sudden change in tone, mood, theme, genre, and setting is so remarkable, that it only proves the fact that the author has good dexterity on the art of writing itself. I am in awe of her novels not merely for the stories, but for the kind of execution she opts for in each of her novels. My best wishes for the young author for her upcoming writings.
