Startups are, no doubt, “THE” current trend. In India, they are propping out so fast; we are flooded with innovative ideas. But does it take just an idea for a multi-billion startup? What about those we never hear of? Everything Started As Nothing: How to Win the Startup Battle by Bhaskar Majumdar as the name suggests, talks about how to sustain your startup in the complex Indian economy.
The author is an early-stage investor and an entrepreneur himself; which clearly shows in the book; the knowledge is abundant. Everything Started As Nothing talks about everything you need to know about the startup world; the do’s and don’ts, what you are stepping into, the fun part, there’s a wholesomeness to the book.
It is peppered with real-life stories and amazing anecdotes; which alone make the book worth reading. To name a few, the book has stories from the lives of Abhinay Choudhary (co-founder of Big Basket), Phanindra Sama (co-founder of Red Bus), Sanjeev Kapoor etc. It was nothing less but astounding to read how these giants fell and rose and emerged victorious in this battle.
The language and the narration of the book is very easy and understandable. The stories, of course, stood out the most for me. The book gives hope; to know that these giants started out like so many others, that maybe one day I can be one of them; the thought is oddly comforting.
I must confess though; after reading so many books about startups these past two years, I have realized that at the end, all of them are the same. It’s like all the books are aiming at a single destination, just that the routes are different. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with it. I, being an avid non-fiction reader, am aware that the books are a push towards the right direction. And you don’t get on the right track unless you are shoved there constantly, repeatedly.
As it is popularly and rightly said that “Learning should never stop”, Everything Started As Nothing has loads to learn from. A must read for all the business-minds, non-business peeps, everyone to be honest; the books has something for everyone. And repeating myself, the stories are to die for *wink*
