Best Fantasy Book Series Adapted Into TV Shows and Movies

Yes, fantasy is the genre! I mean, it provides a much-needed break from the mundane wanderings of daily life—a magical wandering into wondrous magical and, on occasion, modern or dystopian worlds. Be it a magical tryst, wizard duels, a face-off with mystical beasts, or royal dramas, fantasy by itself is a vast and expansive genre covering a huge array of themes.

What makes it fascinating?

Well, simple. It can be original as well as intriguing enough to the point of, um, addiction, if I may so call it. Yes, the characters have had their birth, their genesis, amidst the pages of a great book, one that has received unanimous, well-deserved love for its creativity and brilliance. And yet one cannot deny that every single story that spells out excellence, especially in the case of fantasy fiction, is always a stronger contender for being adapted onto the silver screen owing to its “unique” and fresh perspective.

So, today I thought of sharing with you guys a list of the best fantasy book series to be adapted into TV shows and movies:

Harry Potter Series

Starting it off with the one which is more than a fan favourite across the globe-a cult if I were to address it correctly. Revolving around a boy Harry who discovers that he is a wizard and goes to a magical boarding school where he faces numerous challenges and trysts, encounters strange, gruesome creatures and fights the vilest of villains, this one is a popular conversion, having enjoyed brilliant and super successful silver screen adaptations as well as a Broadway play conversion along with another spin-off series.

Game of Thrones Series

One of the most watched and popular series, this one has mastered the art of broad storytelling, and how! Following two major plot lines, the first centred on the Iron Throne ruling the seven kingdoms and the political conflicts that surround it, and the second follows the story of a banished princess who has the ability to tame dragons. Spanning over 8 seasons, this one is actually a master class in screenwriting and one of the best fantasy shows to date.

The Lord of the Rings Series

Based on books by J. R. R. Tolkien, the ensemble high fantasy film is set in fictional Middle Earth and follows a hobbit named Froddo who actually inherits the Ring and must destroy it before it falls into the clutches of enemy hands. There is no way you will not enjoy this classic film franchise.

Shadow and Bone Series

Based on two series of fantasy novels set in the same world by Leigh Bardugo, the series follows a girl named Alina who discovers that she is a person who has magical powers and can control matter at a molecular level and can summon light to combat everlastingness. At the same time, a gang known as the Crows attempted to kidnap her. A blend that feels like a match made in heaven.

The Witcher Series

Based on novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski, the series is set in a mediaeval landmass and follows Geralt of Rivia, a magical monster hunter also known as “The Witcher.” A complex story in terms of fantasy elements and lore, this is nevertheless touted as one of the best. The best part? It also has a slew of video games and comic books based on it.

The Wheel of Time Series

Based on famous fantasy author Robert Jordan’s book, this one follows a member of the Aes Sedai, a powerful group of women who are able to channel a hidden power. They are also one of the few who can save the world from the “dark one.”
