Book review of A Darker Shade of Magic by V E Shwab

Lately, I have been wanting to read, rather craving more and more of Fantasy novels that have loads of MAGIC in it (Me and my mood readings, you see!)

Magic was a truly beautiful disease.

So to satisfy my cravings I picked up many novels with the MAGIC word, including, of course, Harry Potter series. Some novels turned out to be lame and some took my breath away. One such novel that managed to render me speechless is A Darker Shade of Magic by V E Schwab. I was in total awe of what I was reading, experiencing. It was magical. And what it made more magical was the writing style of Shwab. It smelled of flowers and poetries, just like Kell. Ah! What more can be magical than this? Hmm?

But you know what? A Darker Shade of Magic by V E Schwab turned out to be so much more to me… It was like stepping out of the confines of four walls –which incidentally is true, and you know why- breathing fresh air, visiting the four Londons with just a few drops of blood – mmm not exactly four Londons, but all the same – with my newest friends Kell, Lila and who not, and doing Dark Twisty MAGIC in the dark alleys of Londons. Oh, you must visit those Londons, to know what I am talking about.

Did I tell you about Kell and Lila, though? Come to think of it, I have mentioned them here and there, haven’t I?

Kell, with his multi-sided coat – Inside-out, outside-in, you can wear it however you want – was simply magical. And so was his pleasing to my heart personality and also his undying love for his brother Rhy. Who wouldn’t fall for him, Eh? And Lila!. Words fall short of how I feel about her! It was like Shwab wrote her thinking of me in mind. Lila’s love Pirate Ships, weapons, shoes and etc, reminded me of me, when my no.1 aspiration was to be a Pirateer… hehehe.

What’s more, the snarky, sassy and witty banter between Lila and Kell, simply made day. Umm, In my case, it made my night!

Oh damn me! Why hadn’t I read A Darker Shade of Magic by V E Schwab before, when I had it all along on my shelf, gawking at me, waiting to be picked up!!! So pathetic of me…

I am in freaking love with this novel. And so will you! Trust me. So, go pick it up, will ya?!
