Review: Lies Look Like Love by Bijaya Kumar Mishra Review: Lies Look Like Love by Bijaya Kumar Mishra“If only life weren’t such an intense complex web? A mesh filled with such intricate, deep-set emotions, it is often so misleading and wondrous that one cannot help but be strangely mesmerized, caught up in that web…”-Anon.Lies look like Love- a book by Bijaya Kumar Mishra I recently finished is mystery fiction, somewhat on these very lines. A suspense thriller this one is a story of Maya who has recently lost her husband Ansh.Struggling to come to terms with her loss, she also has daunting skeletons in her closet. Deciding to allow a tenant to inhabit not only her house but also her heart, she soon must be prepared for not only newfound love but also lies as well. Where shall this newfound relationship in her life get her to? To find out you will have to read the book as shall reveal no more here.To begin with, the story has been crafted very cleverly keeping all aspects that make a thriller great, in mind. The progress the story manages to latch onto, the creepy feeling of the unknown, and the daily uncanny trysts mentioned have been created and placed in a manner so as to keep the readers entangled as well as substantially whetting their reading appetite to discover what shall transpire next.Whether this is a psychological personality disorder or if there really is something spooky or wrong about this place and all the people who are a part of Maya’s circle remains to be discovered. In a suspenseful thriller, the plot does tend to grab the pace as the story unfolds layer after layer, becoming more uncanny and complex with every proceeding chapter. The Author Bijaya Mishra has ensured that neither is the speed at which the story proceeds affected in any manner nor do the characters become overwhelming at any point. With a refreshing tonality and approach towards a powerful build-up, all leading to a stupendous climax-Lies look like love is a thriller you will surely enjoy reading if you are a fan of good suspense and thriller mystery.

Review: The Royal Peacock Crown by Arushi Vats“Sometimes destiny comes in the form of an enigmatic interstellar shift, one which is unreal, yet the only way to reach your true belonging.”Indeed, life is a uniquely strange phenomenon. What appears fantastical and impossible to one may be the actuality of another. Fantasy is one such genre which always has the element and tone of imagination with multiple wings attached to it.One such children’s fiction I just finished happens to be “The Royal Peacock Crown” by Arushi Vats. The story of Shipra, her journey into the fantasies of another world, and her unravelling and the busting of her illusions, of these, form a fantastic piece of writing which makes up for an enjoyable read.Shipra, a 13-year-old who happens to get a magical book, soon realizes that the book is a portal to a magical world, a place which, for her at least is the eventual reality of her existence. Streeling, this world is also a battleground where she must tackle numerous challenges, overcoming many trysts to achieve what happens to be a pre-destined factor of her existence.Arushi has ensured that all the characters be it Shipra, Vivaan or any other are depicted to the best of their potential. I liked the world-building aspect of Streeling as well as its detailsThe manner in which the plot progresses, the way in which Shipra’s character transcends to another level, and the presence of different mythological characters made it an intriguing read. The references to the Mahabharata and also the Sanskrit shlokas that appear intermittently gave the book another worldly kind of feel.Children will relate to this book as it happens to be one of the genres they enjoy indulging in the most.Good writing, great research and world-building and a great plot make this book a great read.

Review: Murdrum 2 by Dr Sohil MakwanaI recently Review: Murdrum 2 by Dr Sohil MakwanaI recently finished Murdrum 2: Double Trouble by Dr Sohil Makwana, the sequel to the first in the series. For those who are unacquainted with the previous, don’t worry because there is a little recap in the first part, which will help you get updated with the transpiring of this psychological crime thriller. This one starts with CBI officer Komal Rathod being assigned to find out the reason why a pregnant woman has been slaughtered. 26 murders which have taken place in a short span of time are ticking away her time and patience as she gets into the rigmarole towards finding out why and who is behind these. Would she be able to find out who the murderer is and his/her purpose behind the brutal acts? Or will she fall prey to the vicious weblike quagmire the murderer has spun for her?I want to commence by mentioning how Dr Sohil’s writing has always intrigued me because of its uncanny ability to give one a lens to picture the scenario in your mind’s eye. His descriptions are so vivid, the details being gruesome yet appealing in a compelling sort of way, keeping you hooked right throughout the narrative. The references, especially the medical jargon used are effective in keeping one’s interest piqued at all points throughout the read. I almost felt to be a part of the chase alongside Komal as I could begin to see the whole drama almost unfold successfully in my mind’s eye, thanks to Dr Sohil’s illustrative descriptions. Also, adopting the use of technology to catch the killer used in this plot is fresh and engaging, allowing a newer perspective to the story. I must mention that in spite of this being a crime read, the author has tried to keep it light at times, giving the readers a bit of respite from the heavy-duty plot and storyline. A riveting murder mystery, this one will keep you hooked on to the edge of your seats for long!

Review: The Amateur Detectives"Crime" is a very Review: The Amateur Detectives"Crime" is a very fascinating genre. If written and created correctly, it is one of those that can entice maximum audiences towards it owing to its ability to keep one glued and hooked on to the story, mulling over the outcome of their transpiring. Over the years, I have read many thrillers, so I know a great one when I see it. I just read The Amateur Detectives by Sayan Sahoo and boy was I bowled over!I generally avoid reading prologues as they usually, for me, do not add anything to the story. I feel they are simply a waste of time. But here it was poetic, unique and different. Leaving you with an anticipating build-up, it set the tone just right for me first. The prologue exuded a vibe akin to dark noir, something I find absolutely alluring. It was as if the writer told you, in a tantalizing tone, "Beware, a storm is brewing your way."With the prologue itself setting the pace for what promised to be stellar detective fiction, this one marks a startling debut with a refreshing voice encompassing not only intrigue but also superb suspense, having been fused in a manner that is light-hearted and warm, just like the stories we used to read back then, pertaining to detective fiction. Dark noir, the whiff of the crime mafia, which for me is the ultimate reading material.Neel Roy is definitely one of the most relatable ones I have seen created in recent times. The way he employs Dipti Dutta and their complete camaraderie makes for an engaging read. Even Neel’s tete-a-tete with Jimmy, his dog, is refreshing to read. I simply fell in love with the flirtatiousness exchanged as well as Dipti’s eye-rolling. Respite is imparted in the middle of the thrills and chills!A super thrilling read, this one promises to be as riveting a page-turner as some of the best crime fiction you may have come across. Blended with the right mix of humour, a little sprinkle of flirtatiousness, loads of suspense, and oodles of thrills, this one should definitely be on your TBR next.

In Between Homes by Meenakshi Shivram"The cusp t In Between Homes by Meenakshi Shivram"The cusp that stands unaccustomed yet all-knowing, between love and spirituality, is the true cross-over that marks the completion between nothingness and infinity." -AnonLove is a tender yet one of the most beautiful aspects of one's life that truly define a person, their perspective as well as determines their disposition and also their inner incline.A simple, yet beautiful book of poems I recently finished is a perfect reminder of how to love and all those emotions which are bitter and the antithesis of it. They make up for those spaces in life which lie unaided and empty in their absence and which solely depend on their presence and existence. In Between Homes by Meenakshi Shivram is a collection of poems that speak of all those emotions of love, heartbreak, loss, and heartbreak that are felt by one but which are seldom acknowledged as we somehow tend to ignore the delicate intricacies of the fine threads that make them up.
Dividing her writing into various sections pertaining to the elements of the universe, aka Jal, Agni, Vayu, Bhumi, and Aakash, the author attempts to delve into those portions of one's life that even though we experience, we shy away from admitting. Yes, indeed, that is human nature; persistent denial in the face of the startlingly obvious.Through elegantly written pieces, Meenakshi has not only pursued minute emotions such as beauty, love, heartbreak, and apprehension but has also shed light upon the much graver and serious topics of death and also man's search for meaning during the same. For me, the brownie points were attributed to the fact that she has seamlessly laid down her feelings, barring any inhibitions, and also without bothering to follow any preset cliched patterns that are the usual practice adopted whilst writing poetry.A pure, unfiltered pour of thoughts, a radical, holistic perspective, and voila! beautiful poems right here!!

Writing which appeals in a time of chaos? When th Writing which appeals in a time of chaos? When the lockdown of 2020 happened, it brought with it numerous challenges apart from being just “locked down”. For me, one of them is that I somehow got into a breakdown of sorts, a reading slump, feeling too depressed to get back to the thing I love the most. Call it the melancholic atmosphere, the fears and inhibitions people around were carrying, call it my personal battles with the situation, the result was that I could barely concentrate on anything much. That is when I decided I will break my slump by re-reading one of my favourite books-Norwegian Wood, by Haruki Murakami. I always feel he is not a writer but a magician who weaves mystic magic through his words.Re-reading Norwegian Wood at that time really helped me to conquer not only my personal demons but also those which existed in the vicinity along the sidelines of my then-life. Murakami has a way with his writing I always feel as his characters are relatable and therapeutic enough for one to resonate with. Same for his quotes. Simply put, they do not boast of impossibilities but rather peruse life at a very close distance, sawing through the most complex of questions with solutions which have always been present but not pursued by us.An author who is been my lifelong, unspoken friend, faithful comrade and mentor for life.So today I thought of sharing with you some quotes by Haruki Murakami which helped me when I was in a dark place. Let me know your favourite ones in the comments below..

Funny World we live in-Sexual servitude is more ap Funny World we live in-Sexual servitude is more appealing than priceless emotions. Do you agree?Review: House Boy by Lorenzo DeStefanoHave you ever read a book that left you so bewildered, so shattered that you are left gasping, skulking around corners, not to mention the kind of ‘explicit but does exist in reality?Well, recently I read the book House Boy by Lorenzo Destefano and boy, I smacked on the head. Lewd trigger alert! Kindly do not read further if you are averse to explicit language or strong, lewd content. House Boy - a fiction that is a daunting, weird, yet strangely real story of a young Dalit boy from South India who is lured into accepting a high-profile domestic job in England, promising him great wages, who undergoes exploitation beyond endurance and comprehension.Little does he realize that it is a selfish trap of those flesh merchants who are inadvertently offering him as prey to one of those upper-class “obnoxious” individuals of England who are worse than the Satan himself, in the garb of the so-called elite.Having been subjected to all kinds of humiliation and atrocities, nothing however prepares him for the fateful obscenity to which he must surrender, time and again. Having been reduced to becoming a sexual rag doll, a serf who is all but fallen victim to this cruel twist of fate, impoverished, with absolutely no scope for fighting off this travesty. When humanity falls beyond ground zero level, stooping to lowly standards, what is evident is just a sighting of Satan himself in the form of these upper-class society people, projecting nothing but vile misdeeds through their acts. It is painful yet the most gruelling reality of our times.Kudos to Lorenzo for having brought forth the plight of the deprived of the society for all to read, out in the open. We are aware of what transpires behind closed doors, we have an inkling of what occurs behind dark veils and yet well all but acknowledge the perils of the dark side of our own kith and kin, feeling the need to always “keep the skeletons within the closet”.

The Shotgun Wedding Suchandra Roy Choudhary“If The Shotgun Wedding Suchandra Roy Choudhary“If you were to ever peel away the roofs of households, what might you find but infinite raw material for creating the best possible drama and comedy ever possible thanks to the politics, emotions they contain.”Indeed, true to the core these words are. Be it the dilemma of family feuds, politically inclined characters, or sweet yet closer-to-life romances, a household is the perfect base ground to create as well as fashion these idea encapsulations from. Ideally, I’d say a regular household technically qualifies as the best possible research ground for any story writer, owing to the sheer amount of possibility it offers.A book I recently finished - The Shotgun Wedding by Suchandra Roy Choudhury is such a hilarious fiction which fuses together thrill, drama, and comedy against a Bengali backdrop. Progressing with a comic tone, this rom-com also manages to portray the fine line by sensitively depicting those unwinding, enjoyable pursuits of daily life, which are otherwise all but ignored. Suchandra manages to deftly cover and present the dark, satirical side of our society in a flawlessly balmy manner, ensuring that one gets all the incentives of a refreshing rom-com read alongside also delving into the whirlpool of irony, written against a shifting political Bengali era. Politics, drama, comedy, romance, all elements have been not only fused wonderfully but have also been layered in a manner so as to compliment each other. The story of Dita and Raja, here is a fresh yet acquainted tale of romance blended with humour and also interwoven with fine, dark threads of politics that speak volumes about the notorious nature of the society in rural Bengal back then. The writing is refreshing, the plot simple yet enthralling, this one made up for what I deem as a great “breakthrough “read, one laced with the best possible elements that make fiction so sought after.A brilliant debut, go for this one if you want to read sensibly as well as have a hearty time.

A company’s true value is not determined by its numbers alone but also by the kind of takeaway it imparts to its clients and community.PayPal, usherer of the start of the Fintech revolution, has always been the point of intrigue to me. It has been amazing to see the manner in which they have simplified our lives, uncomplicating and expediting processes, which by the way could have been too long and cumbersome.Jimmy, through this book, has indeed managed to capture the early days of the dot com bubble. A book which is revealing, surprising sometimes, lays it all bare for the readers to understand the finer points of the hustle story of Paypal, as well as its gigantic rise to the head of the Silicon Valley. He has meticulously reported and brought to light all those inner workings, all those secrets which were otherwise veiled in shrouds of top secrecy until now.Be it Elon Musk or Peter Thiel, it was fascinating to read and discover how these wizards managed to flourish their wands, hustling technology and innovation towards building the pinnacle of a superb, hassle-free future.Want to understand the technique and science behind fundraising, product management, brand management, team dynamics, handling competition and all entrepreneurial significant takeaways. Review & Recommendation: Sons Of Darkness by Gour Review & Recommendation:
Sons Of Darkness by Gourav MohantyWhen the Author Gourav Mohanty elucidated the details for his book, I thought it was probably a retelling of sorts, in a GOT (Game of Thrones) or possibly LOTR (Lord of the Rings) style. Little did I know that I would soon be transported to an era back in History which is not only grim but also full of colour and a riot which promises to be so full of life and its totalities that I would be submerged, full to the brim, till I reach the end of the first in the saga.Come delve into the story of naïve, experienced kings, dynamic, malevolent queens, righteous killers as well as self-styled priests, retelling some long-forgotten albeit eagerly sought stories assimilating and portraying the world and times of forgotten Gods and heroes.Be it Krishna-the puppeteer, the true oasis of calm in the midst of chaos or Satyabhama, stern and sensual, his third wife or even Princess Mati-the pirate princess, or even other characters such as Karna or Kalyavan, Gourav has woven Mahabharata in a fantastical, grim manner. Albeit it left me completely smitten, yearning for more, attempting to peruse what he has grown by fusing the old roots with newer shoots with a much more flamboyant, dynamic vitality. With the turn of every page, I was transported to not only another land but another spectrum altogether of space and time, a continuum that not only superseded the walls of space, time and culture but of thought processes, of entities that “should” or “would” have existed. Reading about them gave me a new perspective, seeing them in a fresh new glow, a beacon which is as bright as it is blinding, yet illuminating in a strangely uncanny yet satisfying sort of a way.A larger than life fantasy, yet a must-read and one of the best I have read in a long time.

What comes to your mind when you see this picture? What comes to your mind when you see this picture?Any object might hold one meaning for somebody and another for someone else. It is totally a matter of vantage and perception. Thus, I want to ask you today what came to your mind first when you saw this picture? For me it was The Lord of the Rings - a series I thoroughly enjoyed reading and rereading and wouldn't mind reading multiple times.Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

"Religion is a bludgeon in the hand of the oppress "Religion is a bludgeon in the hand of the oppressor to suppress the oppressed."- J. Safari.Indeed, religion and caste are behind the centuries-old custom and chastising of the Dalit community which suffers inexcusable pain at the hands of the society, a conspiracy which is similar to a whirlpool of muck and swamp.
Vultures- A book written by Hemang Ashwin Kumar and Dalpat Chauhan is one such title which inspects a feudal society which is structured and based on such caste-based biases and where the lives of the Dalits are blasted into smithereens by the upper caste "vultures". A huge shout out to this amazing Author duo for putting forth such a powerful plot and that too so intricately with not only the use of a suitable dialect but also a graphical description which looks promising enough to sweep one off their feet. The book which peruses the story of a serf and his blood-curdling murder, Vultures attempts to approach the unsought and the often sidelined shortcoming of our societal mindset which has been harbouring for ages, coyly, wreaking havoc.Focusing on this fragmented world and the brutalities of caste patriarchy, waiting to read this one further and soak in the power of this stellar writing!!
