Maroon In A Sky Of Blue; the title itself was so intriguing and the cover so magnetic, I was drawn towards it. Written by Girish Dutt Shukla, it is a romance novel. But it is not just romance; the book covers topics like mental health, grief and tragedy too.

It’s the story of Onir, a teenager, who has fallen in love with his friend Palchinn. But their love story does not have a happy ending because Palchinn dies in an accident. Onir is broken; he falls in the traps of depression and goes through serious trauma. During all this, Onir meets a girl called Ziya and bonds with her fast. But there’s something wrong with this new character.⁣

I think, comparatively, the number of books written on mental illness and depression is very few. And seeing that a considerable percentage of the world’s population is going through these issues, people should write more about it. First things first, kudos to the author for writing on this important subject. Second, I loved the characters. All of them had so distinct personalities, it was fascinating. The book got more interesting for me in the second half, when Ziya’s character comes in the story.⁣

Things that disappointed me about the book; I think it was stretched too much in the first half. Also, the font size was too small. I would have definitely enjoyed reading it more if the font size was increased a little. This does not have anything to do with the story, but my reading experience.⁣

The language was awesome. The plot was gripping. The title and cover, as said earlier, were attractive. It was an enjoyable read altogether. Considering that it was the author’s debut work, it was amazing. I wish him all the best for his future and look forward to read his future works!
