Have you ever experienced life from its utmost proximity? Strange and uncanny is its essence. Want to delve deeper into its many inlaid secrets? Then come join me as I go on a journey towards this through exploring a book containing beautiful pieces of poetry symbolizing the same. Ahmiyat by Shitiz Dogra, a book review.
होठों से आँखों तक है असली सफ़र मुस्कुराहट
उम्र के साथ ये फ़ासला, बढ़ता सा ही ज़ाए
What beautiful words! Feels as if they have waddled up straight from the depths of one’s heart, narrating those realities of life which in spite of knowing we do not dare to acknowledge ever and those which we forever tend to remain distant towards.
I have always felt that Ghazals, poetries, and musings are those forays which give one a true insight into one’s life and living. The feelings we experience and the emotions we live through day in and day out are best expressed through these pieces of intricate writing, reading which incidentally happens to be one of my utmost favourite things. In fact, I always feel that poets are those who tend to become captive of these innocent little ideas and daily musings of life. They are thus always keen to share these slices of life that they discover with us, braving us to dive head first into their vat full of experiences and musings. Of course, their writing is surely a means they have adopted to free themselves of the captivity from these complex feelings and since they share the same for us to partake of those, we surely must take consideration and indulge in the same.
You must be wondering what has gotten into me today to get so emotional. Well, my friend Author Shitiz Dogra has come out with a brilliant ensemble of Hindi poems which are an interesting mix of ghazals, poetries as well as kataats (micro poems) titled Ahmiyat the excellence of which has compelled me to share such deep, intense thoughts with you all today. A stupendous and excellent effort by Shitiz towards sharing these innocent little daily musings of life, I am awe-struck as well as spellbound by the beauty of his words.
In a total of 50 odd poems and kataats in the subheading of “Bas Yun hi” Shitiz has portrayed a rainbow of sorts, one which has a kaleidoscope of emotions and feelings attached to it. Be it moments of joy, or pounding cries of pain, each and every hue and colour created by Shitiz in this multi-hued rainbow is unique as well as beautiful in its own garb. He has put across the minutest of emotions and feelings of life with pen on paper, even those which are kind of tricky to express, I’d say through this one. A comprehensive detailed analysis of life and its bearings, this one is surely a treat for all poetry lovers.
People say that if you want to learn the truths and decipher the realities of life, then look around you. You shall be amazed to find the same life sulking and weeping away coyly in one corner and the same life jumping away buoyantly celebrating in the other part of the same spectrum.
Do you know the best part I felt whilst reading these poetries? I could actually feel the connectivity to each and every word, each and every line as I was reading these pieces. Albeit simple, his words had a powerful and impactful demeanour, crackling away, warming up the cogs of my heart.
Take the poem “Band Kamre” for instance. This one will not only leave you in an emotional lurch but will compel you to think how a roof, a support system is indispensable for any human being in life. Powerful and transforming indeed!
Another one titled Kaajal is also one of my absolute favs. A lover beseeched with pain owing to being separated from his beloved, off! This one surely has my heart and how…
Apart from poems, Shitiz has also written some fabulous kataats aka micro poems which in spite of being written with minimum words have a herculean impact I’d say.

Ahmiyat
