With 2023 already underway (my god, I can’t believe it’s been a month already! ), quite a few Bollywood remakes of South Indian films are set to release in 2023. While many are under the radar due to speculation about their cast, others are eagerly anticipated with excitement and adrenaline. Shehzada and other Bollywood South Indian remakes of 2023 are all lined up for you guys today.
Successful South Indian films being remade is a trend that has been gaining a lot of momentum and traction, especially in recent times. Although earlier too, this practice had gained popularity with superhits like Rehna hai tere dil Mein, Sooryavansham, Hulchul, Ghajini, Wanted and Bodyguard, the trend has come back in recent times too.
So, what is it that makes a South Indian film so successful? Well, a host of factors. Right from a super-duper powerful script to stellar actors, astounding performances, and most importantly unique and refreshing content, South Indian films have always set the bar extremely high as far as the perfect deliverance is concerned.
That is why Bollywood prefers to remake these films. With a brilliant plot idea, story, and concept ready, it gives a great head start to Bollywood producers and directors, who can get inspired by them and make quality content.
As a result, I decided to publish the specifics of such remakes today. So, here are Shehzada and other Bollywood remakes of South Indian films of 2023:
Shehzada
A remake of the extremely popular film “Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo,” a Telugu film starring Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde in the lead, this one is releasing on February 10, 2023. While the Hindi version stars “apun ka” favourites Kartik Aryan and Kriti Sanon, based on the teasers, the original plot idea and story appear to have been fully retained. Whether Kartik manages to replicate the scintillating charm of Allu’s performance, well, that remains to be seen.
Selfiee
A remake of the 2019 Malayalam drama “Driving Licence,” this comedy flick had Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the original. The Hindi version stars Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, who will share screen space for the first time. Although the director Raj Mehta claims that “Selfie” is not a complete remake but rather an “adaptation” of this one, it is still an interesting combo of actors cast, and this one, coming out on February 24, 2023, has a lot of buzz around it already.
Bholaa
A remake of the 2019 Tamil action thriller “Kaithi,” which had Karthi, Arjun Das, and Narain, the Hindi version will see Ajay Devgn and Tabu in the lead roles. Being produced, directed, and helmed by Ajay himself, he has already started promoting this one on Instagram too. As a 3-D film, this one has a high-interest quotient for me since I personally feel Ajay Devgn is a very hard-working individual who always manages to deliver spot-on performances. Along with that, he excels at other tasks such as direction, production, and so on. This one will be released on March 30th, 2023.
Kisi Ka Bhai, Kisi Ki Jaan
Apun ke “Salman” bhai, aka Salman Khan’s movie, set to release on April 21, 2023, has been produced by Bhai himself, which BTW is also a remake of Veeran, a South Indian super flick. Starring Raghav Juyal, Shehnaaz Gill, and Pooja Hegde, this one is sure to be high on the Bollywood barometer this year.
Aprichit
A remake of the Tamil hit film Anniyan, where the original film had the title role being portrayed by superstar Vikram as a guy with a multiple personality disorder who works as a lawyer by day and a vigilant messiah of sorts at night, this psychological thriller will have Ranveer Singh as the lead, being directed by Shankar. Ok, I can’t wait for the adrenaline rush that Ranveer brings to the table!
Gumraah
The Hindi remake of the Tamil flick “Thadam” will star Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles in this crime thriller. While Aditya helms a double role in this one, the film is backed by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, creating a lot of speculation already.
Sanki
Based on the Tamil murder mystery “Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru,” the Hindi adaptation will have Varun Dhawan play the protagonist along with Parineeti Chopra. Sajid Nadiadwala is producing this one, which is a sort of reliving of the past. This one, again, has a lot of juicy anticipation with Varun out there to deliver a killer performance.
