Five Spice Curry by Anushila Chakrabarti

A reader goes through multitude of emotions while reading a novel, and if that novel happens to be a collection of short stories, then each story of it contains emotions unfathomable, that shakes you, makes you laugh, makes you reminisce the past long gone by, and it also shatters you, all at once. Sounds like magic, right?⁣⁣Anushila’s novel Five Spice Curry, is one such book that has only five stories, but the journey we take with each of these stories, covers distances of a lifetime and gives experience invaluable. Experiences that are as essentials as the Five spices we use in an Indian curry, without which our life is bland and meaningless.⁣⁣This book Five Spice Curry by Anushila Chakrabarti took hold of my heart from the first story. It was a story, which I could relate to. And this was the story that set my excitement rolling. And roll, they did!⁣ Each and every story was a delight to read. Each was a mirror reflecting our life choices that we make and the outcome of those choices were as fluid as water, shaping our life.⁣⁣Anushila with her incredible storytelling art, impressed me. The narrative style enthralled me. It was a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers. All shades of emotions in one place, spreading their fragrances in all parts of my heart. I was struck at the beauty of these stories. Engrossing and compelling. ⁣⁣One can see the hard work and love the author has put into this book. I could still smell the fragrance of these stories. The best part of the book Five Spice Curry by Anushila Chakrabarti is that I couldn’t find a single negative thing to say. ⁣Though, I wouldn’t say that each of these were perfect. No. The beauty was in its imperfection. I would like highly recommend this book to you all. Especially who likes to read short stories. This book has scored a perfect 5, for it’s sheer simplicity and stories we could easily connect to.⁣

Dream Beyond Shadows by Kartikeya Ladha

Dream Beyond Shadows: No Ordinary Tourist by Kartikeya Ladha

Kartikeya Ladha’s ‘Dream Beyond Shadows’ is one of those rare books that I can read over and over again. Which is very odd for a person, who with all her heart detest reading any Self-Help or Spiritual books. You ask me, Why I loved this book? Because it’s really really good… And really helpful for someone who is going through some sort of identity crisis or a mental block, hindering the very peace of mind which we ultimately strive for. ‘Dream Beyond Shadows’ is an inspiring tale about the journey of the author, towards self-fulfillment. What makes it more fascinating is that this book is part autobiographical, part spiritual, part travelogue and part poetry. When I started with this book, I was unaware that it’d be a delight to read. Each turn of page released me from nodes I never realized I was tied into. This book is a story of Kartikeya’s journey to self-realization, that there is more to life than a successful career and a life of luxury. Life needs simplicity to thrive on, not the complexities we humans create for ourselves. This is a story of the author, who author decides to quit his job and take on a path that he never before thought of treading. The path of self-actualization through a journey of wanderer and a wonderer. Kartikeya travels to Peru in South America, where he encounters many soul enlightening experiences, which changes the Author in a very spiritual way. Kartikeya Ladha’s spiritual journey inspired me on a very deeper level. It kind of forced me to contemplate about the journey I was in and its consequences that may impact the mental wellbeing. The best part about the book is Kartikeya’s narrative. It felt like smooth flowing river; calm and harmonious. What’s more, the author weaved this beautiful journey intricately into an inspiring tale. I applaud the author with all my heart. Dream beyond Shadows has earned a 4 star for its beautifully written story and the lesson it teaches its readers. Rating: 4/5

Medical Astrology

Medical Astrology by Dr. Deepak Singla

I come from the Doctors Family, who believes that astrology and health go hand in hand almost always, so reading Dr Deepak Singla’s Medical Astrology was such a pleasure. It was the book with which I could relate easily at many levels. This is a perfect first book to read about medical astrology and makes you think about how health and ill-health are in some way connected with stars. To those with previous knowledge of medical and astrological concepts, like the stars, houses and dimensions, as well as the signs of the zodiac, this turned out to be a very informative and engaging book. This book Medical Astrology by Dr. Deepak Singla, talks about your basic nature and how the Zodiac signs affect them. The author describes the main role of medical astrology as identifying the underlying astrodynamic patterns which connect mind and body, addressing the inherent problems of the exterior symptoms. Many diseases such as Diabetes, Respiratory, Heart, eyes and etc are explained in a very detailed way along with the rashis that rule that particular house. What I most liked about the book is that the author is not attempting to replace the medical team but rather is complementing them. The author describes how the process works– changing our relationship with our more difficult characteristics through awareness and alertness. What’s more, the narrative and language of the book Medical Astrology by Deepak Singla, are simple yet super engaging. This is a book you can keep coming back to every time you feel like.  This is a perfect book for people like me, who are always curious to know more about astrology and how it affects our health. I highly recommend this book to you all. I rate this book 4 on 5.

Master Your Money, Master Your Life by Abhishek Kumar⁣

I am always wary of reading books related to Money management as they keep on going about the age-old jargons of how not to spend money and invest more and etc. Truth to be told, these jargons don’t work anymore in today’s time, where money has considerably lost its value and life has become quite fast.

A Week With Enya by Amar B Singh

“Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings, it takes its origin from emotions recollected in tranquility” Truer words! Don’t you agree?  I have always turned to Poetries, whenever I have felt depressed or for some reason down. Poetries, I felt have impacted me on some deeper ways. They have always managed to leave their imprints on my subconscious mind, soothing and at the same time healing me. Amar B. Singh’s ‘A Week with Enya’, collection of some of the beautiful poetries is one such book that made its place in my heart. Wrought with emotions, this collection of poetries speaks of father’s experience with his autistic daughter, that I won’t be forgetting soon. Author Amar has poured his heart out into these poetries. Poetries, that taught me many valuable lessons; I learned that every breath we take is a lesson in itself, I also learned life is to live every moment lovingly.  Poems I liked the most Some of the poems like Fear Clipped My Wings, The Deep Lake, Fitting Her In My Society, The Nature of Being and etc, spoke to some or the other part of my life. Reading these poems were like a movie, continuously running in my head; I smiled, I cried and I rejoiced. Written Style I was in thrall of Amar’s writing style. Each poetry, it seemed told me tales of untold emotions. Beautifully written, binding me to the essence of author’s emotions. The Language, I must say was in itself is a poetry to the the heart and music to the soul. The emotions that seeped through these poetries were poignant. Review of the book The Grand Master & other Short Stories by Chinmaya Desai

The Grand Master & Other Short Stories by Chinmaya Desai

It’s quite rare that I find a collection of short stories above average. Kudos to the author Chinmaya Desai for writing some of the finest short stories, of which some were really outstanding. Now I wonder, if I would be able to do justice to the book.  The Grand Master & other Short Stories is a collection of 17 stories. Tales such as Mathematician, Mother’s love, The Grandmaster, Who let the Dogs Out, The Woman in The Yellow Saree etc, taught me something and left me to mull over things, long after I had read them. It was like I was living among those characters and feeling their emotions as mine own. Amazing to see how a simple story can transform our perception. The narrative of each of the tale was lovely and very engaging. By using quirky, through imagery style of writing in individualistic prose the author enhanced the drawing strength of each of these tales. What I didn’t like about the book? A few stories in the book were very disappointing, but the good ones made it up for the disappointing ones. Language was used in the book was okayish. Bit of editing could have done wonders. Overall, it is a must read collection of short stories, which is a perfect light read and a best companion while travelling. I relate this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Interview of Supraajha Murali, author of the book Half a Moonstone
Book Reviews

Author interview of Supraajha Murali

How did you come up with this book? Anything particular that prompted you to write this book? The whole novel was based off one very vivid image of a man and a woman dueling, with half a moonstone embedded on the hilts of both their swords.I got the idea from watching a ring my friend wore every day. I had to do a lot of world building from that image as muse. Where do you get your information or ideas for your books? I come up with most of the ideas by visualizing the chapters all day. Since it’s in a historical time period, I check to make sure even the smallest of details are consistent with the setting. What makes this particular genre you are involved in so special? I come up with most of the ideas by visualizing the chapters all day. Since it’s in a historical time period, I check to make sure even the smallest of details are consistent with the setting. I have always been attracted to history and fantasy, most importantly Indian stories about palaces, kings and queens. Half A Moonstone is set in a completely fictional Kingdom with completely fictional characters, something pretty uncommon even among Indian fantasy/his-fic writers. I come up with most of the ideas by visualizing the chapters all day. Since it’s in a historical time period, I check to make sure even the smallest of details are consistent with the setting. If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why? Divergent. It is the most fascinating as well as technically sound book I’ve ever read. It continues to hold me spellbound. Do you aim to complete a set number of pages or words each day? Though I don’t write every single day, I try my best to write a chapter every 2-3 days to maintain consistency, as well as give myself enough time to think things through. What do you think was the greatest turning point of your life? I’m very passionate over dance, I’ve always wanted to dance and perform professionally. I had a major injury while dancing a few years ago. Though I managed to recover completely, it taught me a lot about priorities, my love for dance and life itself. When did you first consider yourself a writer? I’ve always been writing, I guess, even before I could spell the words right. I remember falling in love with words when I was all of nine years old. Being a “writer” is a very personal, intimate and happy feeling to me, which comes every single time I create. Often in life, it’s our greatest challenges that make or break us. What do you think is the determining factor between whether we grow by our adversity or are destroyed by it? Attitude. “Growth”, to me, doesn’t always equal “winning”. We grow when we fail, we grow when we succeed. I believe that with lots and lots of patience and persistence, even the worst of situations can be converted into learning experiences. Looking beyond emotions and into the valuable lessons each adversity or conquest teaches us, is what I believe is the key to growth. Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers? Don’t apply undue pressure on yourself. We shouldn’t push ourselves if we’re not naturally inclined towards writing at that moment. Maintaining consistency is important, yes, but forced creativity is simply counterproductive. We aren’t content churning machines. It’s okay to take it slow! Can you share with us something about the book that isn’t in the book? Most of the characters are parallels of each other. For example, Damayanthi and Pradhyuman are both under the same sort of pressure. Where Pradhyuman submits to the situation, Damayanthi rebels. There is so much more to the characters’ psychology than what readers see in the book. You can find her on my Social Media handles: Facebook : Supraajha Murali Instagram : @purpleearrings123

Review of the book The Leap by Nita Bajoria
Book Reviews

The Leap by Nita Bajoria

The Leap When you have a toddler around you, Kindle becomes your best friend as paper books are not safe at home. Thanks to Booxoul, it seems after ages I have read a paperback and it was a pleasant experience. As aptly mentioned by various studies around the world and Author Nita, Earth is no longer a suitable place for us or to be precise, way to mention that through our selfishness and greed, we are making this earth unsuitable for us. Thus, in this contemporary science fiction novel, few scientists decide that they need to search new home for humans that is Mars and the journey begins. Though this concept sounds familiar due to various Hollywood blockbuster movies, nevertheless author has ensured that there is far more than just a familiar concept. “Following the light of the sun, we left the old world” For colonizing on Mars few people are selected from various countries and each person has their own motive to be part of this project. This project is a dream come true for few people but for few it’s just an escape route from life complexities and terrible past. Under project The Red Planet, they have to leave this earth and set up a permanent home on Mars, no looking back is possible. However, before leaving earth they have to prepare themselves by simulation. The best part about this novel is that there is a background story for each character which makes them real and relatable for me. But at the same time, too many stories will be baffling for someone who does not finish a novel in a few days. As narration is very aesthetic, it is fun to read and each character story is defining a complex life of an individual. I was rooting for Michael who believed that ‘Life is a one-way ticket to death anyway’ but somehow in the second half his character was non-existent. There were a few times where the story seemed little stretched and predictable. Also, cover page design is not justifying this interesting novel. However, different backstories have made this novel as thoughtful gripping sci-fi creation. I would like to rate this book as 4 out of 5 and I will be looking forward to the next part.
